Dear Ben,

I believe my father initially trained at Fort Ord in a Tank Destroyer Battalion. I remember seeing the shoulder patch shown on your website. After some training and qualifications he and I believe the whole group was diverted into the 672 Amphibious Tractor Battalion where they were trained in the new Amcats. He shipped out as a unit to the Phillipines from San Francisco on a single ship all the way to the Solomon Islands and on to Luzon and Manila.I do not have the battalion info from the TDB that he originally belonged to . Your records must show him in the 643rd.   He never served in Europe or North Africa.

My mother still has info from past reunions of the 672 ATB. There may be rosters of 672 members , but nothing on the TDB to my knowledge.

Do you know if there is a museum or website dedicated to the Amphibious Tractor Battalions ?

If I can be of any assistance please email me.

Joe Nawazelski
